Genetic Testing & Genetic Matching
Comprehensive Genetic Testing
At Premier Sperm Bank, all donors undergo a thorough medical and genetic evaluation before being approved.
All donors are screened for five major autosomal recessive conditions and must test negative for all of them.
In addition, all donors undergo extended carrier screening for more than 400 additional genetic conditions. For more information about Premier Sperm Bank's comprehensive donor screening, see our donor screening page.
We are all carriers of genetic mutations
Every person carries genetic mutations. In most cases, this has no impact on personal health, as we inherit two copies of each gene and carrying a mutation in only one copy typically causes no symptoms.
However, if both the donor and the biological mother carry a mutation in the same gene, there is a 25% chance that the child may inherit the condition.
Added reassurance through Genetic Matching
Even with thorough donor screening, it is not possible to completely eliminate the risk of passing on a genetic or hereditary condition.
This risk can be further reduced through Genetic Matching, where the donor's extended screening profile is compared with the biological mother's genetic profile.
By helping identify whether the donor and the biological mother carry mutations in the same gene, Genetic Matching increases the likelihood of having a healthy baby and provides an additional level of reassurance.
The results from the extended screening are kept confidential and are used exclusively for Genetic Matching with the biological mother.
This approach allows us to offer a broad and advanced compatibility assessment while ensuring full compliance with Danish regulations and maintaining the highest standards of donor screening and patient safety.
Known Carrier Match - targeted genetic compatibility support
In addition to our standard Genetic Matching service, we also offer Known Carrier Match. If you know that you are a carrier of a specific genetic condition, you can select a donor of your choice, and we will then assess genetic compatibility based on your existing genetic test report and the donor's extended screening profile.
If the selected donor is not a genetic match, you can choose a new donor at no additional cost until a compatible match is found. This ensures that you can move forward with confidence, knowing that the final donor selection is both personal and genetically compatible.
This targeted approach provides a more personalised level of matching for individuals with known carrier status, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance.
