Comprehensive Donor Screening

Donor screening: science, integrity, and care
At Premier Sperm Bank, all donors undergo a comprehensive screening process designed to meet high standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
We only accept ID-release donors, and all donors must be between 18 and 39 years old at the time of donation.
Fewer than 2% of applicants are accepted into our donor programme. This helps maintain a high standard of donor health and semen quality, supporting optimal treatment outcomes.
Our Comprehensive Screening Process
The donor screening and testing process is thorough and multilayered, designed to ensure high standards of health, safety, and suitability.
Detailed sperm analysis testing to ensure the highest standards of sperm quality.
Donors are screened for core serious genetic conditions and an extended panel used for genetic matching.
Comprehensive psychological and personality evaluation conducted by our physician.
Criminal background checks help confirm accuracy beyond self-reported information.
Approved donors continue to undergo health assessments and infectious disease testing throughout their donation period.
Genetic Testing
Donors are screened for five major autosomal recessive conditions and must be negative. They are also tested for more than 400 additional conditions, which are blinded and can be used for genetic matching.
Even with thorough donor screening, it is not possible to completely eliminate the risk of passing on a genetic or hereditary condition. The risk can be further reduced by doing a genetic match with the chosen donor.
Infectious Disease Testing and Ongoing Screening
All donors are screened for infectious diseases, including:
- HIV
- Hepatitis B and C
- HTLV
- Syphilis
- Gonorrhea
- Chlamydia
At the initial screening, donors undergo a full physical examination and health assessment. This examination is repeated after one year for active donors.
In addition, health screenings are performed at each donation to ensure continued eligibility and monitor overall wellbeing.
