Premier Sperm Bank

Choosing Your Donor

Donors from Copenhagen and Los Angeles

At Premier Sperm Bank, we have donor programs in both Copenhagen and Los Angeles. Regardless of where a donor has donated, all our donors meet the same high standards for quality, screening, and donor-conceived families. However, there may be differences in the information we are able to provide about individual donors.

What all our donors have in common

Whether a donor has donated in Denmark or the United States, the following applies:

  • All donors are ID Release donors, meaning that donor-conceived individuals can obtain identifying information about their donor when they reach the legally relevant age in their country of treatment.
  • All donors are subject to a family limit of a maximum of 25 families.
  • All donors undergo extensive medical and genetic screening.
  • None of our donors carry known genetic conditions that would make them ineligible for use in Denmark.

Why can I see adult photos of some donors?

For many of our American donors, we are able to provide adult photographs. For Danish donors, however, adult photos are not available.

This reflects Danish practices designed to protect the donor's privacy in relation to recipients of donor sperm. Instead, Danish donor profiles include childhood photos, physical characteristics, personality descriptions, interests, and background information.

What should you consider when choosing a donor?

Choosing a donor is a highly personal decision. Some recipients prioritize physical characteristics, while others place greater importance on personality, education, interests, family background, or the amount of information available.

You may wish to consider:

  • How much information would you like to have about your donor?
  • Is it important for you to see adult photos?
  • Which characteristics are most important to you?
  • What information might be valuable for your future child?

Is it easier for a child in Europe to contact a donor who donated in Denmark?

Possibly—but not necessarily.

All of our donors are ID Release donors and have agreed to the same commitment, regardless of whether they donated in Copenhagen or Los Angeles. When a donor-conceived individual reaches adulthood, they have the same right to access identifying information about their donor.

It may seem more likely that a donor who donated in Denmark will still be living in Europe in the future. However, there is no way to know this. People move, relocate internationally, and change their circumstances throughout their lives.

For that reason, the location where a donor originally donated does not necessarily determine how easy it may be to establish contact later on. What matters most is that all Premier Sperm Bank donors have agreed to the same ID Release principles and obligations.

Our recommendation

We encourage you to choose the donor who feels right for you and your future family. Rather than focusing on whether a donor donated in Copenhagen or Los Angeles, consider the information, characteristics, and personal qualities that are most meaningful to you.
